Washington State Employees Credit Union (WSECU)
Case Study

Client Overview
WSECU (Washington State Employees Credit Union) is a not-for-profit financial institution that serves public employees and their families across Washington State. With a mission rooted in community, trust, and financial empowerment, WSECU offers a wide range of services including checking and savings accounts, loans, credit cards, and investment solutions. As a member-focused organization, their communications must reflect clarity, credibility, and approachability—core values essential to the trust they build with their members.

The Challenge
When I began supporting WSECU, their entire internal creative team had been outsourced, leaving only a single in-house creative director. With a steady stream of marketing campaigns, product rollouts, branch communications, and internal initiatives, the need for dependable, on-brand design support was critical.

They were facing bandwidth issues, tight deadlines, and the challenge of maintaining brand consistency across dozens of deliverables—all without an internal team to manage production. They needed a partner who could handle it all: quickly, accurately, and independently.

The Process
Over the course of six years, I became an embedded part of WSECU’s creative operations. I was directly integrated into their project management system (Wrike), which allowed me to work seamlessly with the creative director, marketing managers, and other internal stakeholders. Assignments were handled through Wrike, where I managed timelines, revisions, and final production efficiently within their workflow.

My work included brochures, signage, member-facing handouts, internal collateral, digital graphics, and social content. I was trusted to carry projects from start to finish—with a deep understanding of WSECU’s tone, compliance standards, and visual system baked into every step of my process. I also supported the rollout of their updated brand identity across platforms and touchpoints, helping expand and evolve the visual system while ensuring consistency at every level.

The Solution
As a consistent, external resource, I provided the kind of flexibility and reliability WSECU needed during a period of major structural change. I supported seasonal promotions, branch materials, community outreach campaigns, and ongoing member communications with a clear, polished design approach that stayed true to the brand.

Because I was deeply familiar with their guidelines and expectations, I was able to jump into projects quickly, manage tight timelines, and maintain the high quality that members expect. My role wasn’t just execution—it was continuity.

The Outcome
For six years, I helped WSECU maintain a high standard of communication in the absence of an internal creative team. My support allowed the remaining in-house staff to focus on strategy and oversight while I managed the day-to-day production needs reliably and efficiently.

As they began rebuilding their internal team in the past year, the foundation we built made that transition smoother. I remain proud of the role I played in keeping their communications on track through a challenging and transitional time—and of the trust WSECU placed in me to act as a steady creative partner when they needed it most.
